We would love to share a recent story about one of our Huntsville foster families, the Summers.
When Nathan and Nicole Summers first received their license to foster, they were planning on providing respite care for children. However, their goals shifted after they received a call from their family advocate.
“About a month after we were officially licensed, our advocate reached out to us about a two-year-old,” Nicole shared. “She was just about to enter foster care and is an only child.”
Nicole called her husband to see if they would be open to welcoming this child into their home.
“I knew he would be my voice of reason and tell me no, because we had decided that respite care was what we could handle. He did quite the opposite! He shocked me and said that he thought we could handle it.”
After gathering more information about this little girl, the Summers family prayed about it, and by 4 p.m. that evening, they had welcomed her into their home.
“That first night was rough, I’m not going to lie,” Nicole shared. “We didn’t know much about her, and we were having trouble meeting her needs at first. We battled through, and as the weekend approached, we learned more about meeting her specific needs.”
“She has been a blessing to our family! We learn more about ourselves and her each day. Our boys, who were not thrilled about foster care, now adore her. It has been so neat to see the way God has changed their hearts. We know that we won’t have her in our home forever, but we try to show her God’s love every chance we get.”
