Caring for Children as the Hands and Feet of Jesus

Meet the Chiltons! Amanda and Michael Chilton started their fostering journey unexpectedly when they became relative foster care providers to their cousin. The Chiltons felt called to provide a safe home.

“Everyone deserves to be loved like Jesus would love them,” Amanda recalled thinking, despite the questions and uncertainties that lay ahead. Though the road wasn’t easy, this experience laid the groundwork for their future in foster care.

Amanda and Michael always knew God had called them to minister to children.

At one point, they toured a building and had a vision of the building converted into a home for children in foster care. Though they did not buy the building, they began to pursue becoming licensed foster parents.

In  2021, they received their license, and within two months, welcomed a 20-month-old who is still with them today.

For the first few years of their foster care journey, the Chiltons welcomed several children into their home—even setting up triple bunk beds to make sure siblings could stay together.

“It was crazy but fun,” Amanda shared. “We learned a lot.”

God answered their prayers for more space in an unexpected way when they found their current house at an auction.

“When there’s no way, He makes a way,” Amanda said, grateful for how God provided what they needed to continue caring for children. The home, essentially two houses in one, is currently under renovation to better serve their growing family.

Throughout their fostering journey, they’ve witnessed both heartbreak and triumph. They have been able to celebrate with biological parents after reunifications were possible, and they have struggled to cling to hope after unexpected twists and turns with their children’s cases. Through it all, support from Coyote Hill and Carley McCoy, the Moberly Area Coordinator and their family advocate, has been crucial.

“I would have already quit if it wasn’t for Carley,” Amanda shared. During particularly challenging weeks, when doubt and frustration threaten to overwhelm her, having a strong support system has made all the difference. “Coyote Hill has been that tether to our faith through foster care and all of the trials that come after you.”

Despite the hardships, the Chiltons remain steadfast in their calling, providing love and stability to children in need, always guided by their faith and supported by their community.

“It takes a village, not just a willing family,” Amanda shared.
