Supporting Families Through Respite

As part of our efforts to advocate for foster families, we host quarterly respite events in Jefferson City, Moberly, and Columbia.

Recently, our Moberly team hosted an amazing respite event at Renick School. Children were able to spend time together and have fun, while their parents were able to rest and take care of themselves for the evening.

One parent in Moberly shared, “Respite allows us to slow down and reconnect with our spouse for a few hours. It is easy to get caught up caring for our children that we can forget to care for each other. We are grateful for those who consistently show up for the kids, and also for us as the foster and adoptive parents.”

These events would not be possible without our amazing network of volunteers. Their consistency and compassion make a huge difference.

“Having consistent volunteers gives my children peace of mind when they walk into the respite events,” another parent shared. “My older ones left the event talking about people they had seen last time and saw again this time. As a mama, I did not have to stress when I dropped my one-year-old off because the volunteers remembered that he didn’t eat solid food yet. Having the same volunteers and knowing that they know my kids a little bit lets me go relax instead of worrying through the entire three hours!”

We are so grateful to all of our staff and volunteers who work so hard to make these events life-giving to our families!
