Music Therapy with Giving Song

Recently, Coyote Hill received a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Missouri (CFCM) to provide music therapy through Giving Song, a local organization that provides music therapy to individuals and groups of all ages.

Music therapy uses musical interventions to promote wellness, improve communication, enhance memory, promote physical rehabilitation, alleviate pain, manage stress, increase attention, and much more.

During the fall, Giving Song was able to come out several times to teach the children about music, how we can communicate feelings through music, and how to relieve stress or anxiety through song.

Giving Song focuses on teaching stress and anxiety management through song, creating emotional awareness, and strengthening speech.

It was so fun to watch children engage in dynamic, relational, and engaging activities to build skills while engaging with music.

Activities included karaoke, playing ukulele, memorizing rhythm patterns, and dancing.

They also discussed what feelings are associated with different types of song and were able to engage with smaller instruments.

After one of the sessions, one child who lives at The Hill said she was inspired to be a music therapist in the future! She did not previously know that was a job that existed  but was very excited to consider music therapy as part of her future!

Thank you to Giving Song and CFCM for making this experience possible!
