Amy Busker is a kindergarten teacher who was aware of four sisters in her community who were in foster care. Two of the siblings had been in her class, and when she found out that their case goal had changed to adoption, she felt a strong conviction that these sisters should be together.
She was walking at recess duty with a coworker, sharing all of the reasons why it wouldn’t work out to foster these sisters, when she had a moment of clarity.
“It was a God thing, definitely,” Amy shared. “It felt like God said, There is no good enough reason not to do this.”
When Amy went home, she held a family meeting with her husband and children. The whole family was on board. Nine days later, the girls were in their home. The following Monday, they emailed Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries inquiring about starting their fostering journey. A STARS Foster Parenting class started that same night, so they enrolled for STARS and started the class immediately. Now, the siblings have been with the Buskers for nearly six months. During this time, Amy shared that they have settled into familiar routines as they have figured out how everyone in their home can work well together.
“Recently, our four girls have been interacting with our two sons that live at home like they are brother and sister,” Amy shared. “They all ride around together on their bikes, and it is so nice to see them build bonds.”
Amy also shared how amazing the girls are, and how they are enjoying getting to know each of their personalities.
“I feel like they were the ones who needed a home when they moved in, but they have blessed each of us tremendously,” Amy said. “You foster children to help them, but you get loved in return, and it is so sweet.”
