Meet Lacy Jean and Fancy

It’s time for another Q+A session with some of Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries’s furry friends at our Harrisburg, Missouri Neighborhood! Today, we’ll hear from Lacy Jean and Fancy – two of the ladies in our horse herd.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the one-on-one interviews Equine Program and Barn Manager Rebecca Buchholz conducted with Ranger and Roy in February, so we decided to give two more horses their moments in the spotlight.

Lacy Jean

Lacy Jean’s registered name is Miss Boo Boo.

Q: How old are you?

A: My birthday was April 21! I am officially 27 years old.

Q: What breed and color horse are you?

A: I am an American Miniature Horse and I have the papers to prove it! My color is very unique! I am a Sorrel Overo Pinto (say that three time fast!) My body is white, but it looks like someone spilled giant patches of mahogany red paint on me! My mane is a tawny color, and I even have one blue eye!

Q: What is your favorite thing about Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries?

A: I love all the kids! I am an extremely friendly mini, and enjoy pets and treats and attention from my friends.

Q: What is your favorite snack?

A: I don’t have one favorite, but three: carrots, peppermints, and apple flavored snack pellets.

Q: What is your favorite season?

A: Springtime. Springtime pony cart rides are so much fun after a long icy winter!

Q: What makes you unique?

A: I have known Miss Rebecca longer than any horse at the barn. I belonged to the people who owned the barn where Miss Rebecca worked before coming to Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries. We became best friends, and when the owner’s kids outgrew her, I was given to Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries so I would always have little riders to ride me and Miss Rebecca to care for me.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: Take naps. I have been known to lay down and take naps with Miss Rebecca when we’re really tired.

Q: Is there a goal you want to achieve?

A: To never again have to take another bath. I am not a fan of baths.

Fancy

Fancy’s registered name is Unanimous Choice.

Q: How old are you?

A: I just had a birthday on April 13. I am 25 years old now.

Q: What breed and color horse are you?

A: I am an American Saddlebred. My color is Bay, which means I have a chocolatey brown body with a black mane and tail.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries?

A: I love the big pastures I get to live in, with all the other horses. Living how God created us to really live makes me feel good and happy to do the work I need to do.

Q: What is your favorite snack?

A: Peppermints! I can tell you have a peppermint from across the pasture just by hearing the wrapper crinkle.

Q: What is your favorite season?

A: Fall – nice brisk canters up and down the hills after a hot summer feels just right to me!

Q: What makes you unique?

A: I was born and bred right here in mid-Missouri! The farm I was born on is over in Callaway County. I am also a 5-gaited Saddlebred. That means not only do I walk, trot, and canter, but I can also do a slow-gait and rack. No other horses except saddlebreds can do that, and not even all Saddlebreds can do that. I’ve also had a few babies. One of them, Scarlet, lives here with me at Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: Pose for photos. I am very photogenic (and a very good-looking horse for that matter). When a camera is out, I am sure it’s there to take pictures of me.

Q: Who is your best friend at the barn?

A: I love my friend Jabez. We’re pretty much inseparable.

Q: Are there any places you’d like to visit?

A: Kentucky! Saddlebreds were born to strut their stuff on the green shavings at Louisville.

Q: Is there a goal you want to achieve?

A: To become very shaggy, very dirty, and very fat. I spent most of my life as a fancy show horse, so I love the simple life I have now, where I can live how horses were meant to live.
