We recently hosted a Frontier Day at The Hill for foster and adoptive children.
Our property managers, Sam Coy and Tom Head, led the group through several survival and wilderness activities. These included building and cooking over fires, creating wilderness shelters, learning to use a saw, shooting black powder rifles, and more!

It was an ideal opportunity for children to spend time in nature while learning skills from experienced outdoorsmen.
“We were able to have a fun day with some kids from Columbia that we had not met before,” Tom said. “They really enjoyed the shooting and learning to start a fire. They also enjoyed the good food we cooked over the fire for lunch and supper. We worked up an appetite from all the activities!”
Sam and Tom also said that everyone was very responsible and extra cautious to ensure the safety of all participants!
One foster parent shared that her children had a great time. They especially loved the chance to meet new friends.
“[My son] told me on the way home that it was the best day ever!” she said.
Overall, we are so happy that everyone had a great time, and we are hoping to host more Frontier Days in the future!
“We had a great day enjoying the beautiful weather and meeting new friends,” Sam said. “We had lots of great food and fun activities. We just needed more time!”
