On October 11th, our 12th Annual Boots ‘n Bids for Kids, presented by Robinson + Ries Orthodontics, saw nearly 300 people in attendance. $120,000 was raised for children in need of a safe place to be a child!
“A Life Changed – Valerie’s Story,” our newest video by Cosmic Sauce, was revealed at this year’s event. As a teenager, Valerie went from being homeless to being placed at Coyote Hill. Today she’s happily married and working as a Registered Nurse. Changing lives is what donors and event participants help us do through their support.
Valerie’s former Home Parents, Lorenzo and Jo Scott, attended the event. As soon as they saw the video, they began writing to Valerie on their phones. Jo says, “We were overcome with emotion with how proud we are in all she has done. She replied to me that night, ‘I hope I can be as good a mom as you one day.’ My only thought was, ‘I am only a good mom because the Lord blessed me with such great children to mold me.'”
Yes, Boots ‘n Bids is about changing lives, but it’s also a great evening of fun! This year found us expanding into a new realm: online bidding. The doors were figuratively opened wide for anyone, from anywhere, to bid on our silent auction items along with the evenings’ participants. Bidding stations and smart phones were consulted often, as attendees placed, watched and raised their bids.
Of course, there are still advantages to attending Boots ‘n Bids! Guests were treated to a family style meal, catered by Fresh Ideas. At one point, attendees may have momentarily felt as if they were transported to that famous “home of the throwed rolls” in south Missouri, as caterers and Coyote Hill staff began launching rolls to the dinner guests.
Pianist Ben Colagiovanni performed beautiful live music throughout the evening. Logboat provided beverages. Our children were also able to play a part, as guests could opt to upgrade their meal to include a Coyote Hill mug and “cowboy cookie” made by some of our kids, with the help of Brenda Cummings and Colleen Goss.
Other advantages to attending the event included being able to bid during the live auction and trying for a chance at the fun raffle items. A chance at anything from diamond earrings to a year’s worth of Harold’s donuts could be had for the price of a raffle ticket.
There were ten exciting items on our live auction this year. A few of the most popular included Labrador puppies, a week long vacation in the mountains of Colorado, and a genuine Hunsaker Vortex Smoker.

We are truly grateful for the generosity of our participants. Every gift is appreciated and used wisely to make an eternally significant difference in the lives of children. We’re also thankful for this year’s major sponsors:Related Stories View All
