Meet one of our foster parents, Ellizabeth House! Ellizabeth had been exposed to foster care and adoption within her family of origin. When a friend signed up for a Coyote Hill foster parent training, she encouraged Ellizabeth to do the same.
“I loved the Coyote Hill training,” Ellizabeth shared. “The trainers became friends.”
Since becoming a licensed foster parent, Ellizabeth has provided emergency, respite, and traditional foster care to seven children.
“I admire each of my kiddos’ resiliency,” Ellizabeth said. “They’re incredible little beings who have been through so much hard life, and yet, still have huge loving hearts . . . I love all of their characteristics—even the hard ones that have helped me learn and adjust how I parent.”
Ellizabeth has been able to have fun experiences like floating and camping with children in her care, but she reflects that day-to-day moments can hold special memories, because it helps her see things from her children’s perspective.
Ellizabeth encourages anyone who is considering fostering to dive in. She shared that her support system is vital to her and says that she would be happy to support new foster parents.
“Do it,” Ellizabeth said. “It’s hard, yes, but these kids need you. Even if you can only take in one kiddo! Please feel free to reach out to me with questions, curiosities, encouragement, anything. I couldn’t do it without my support system, and I’d be happy to support new foster families.”
April 2024 postscript: We shared Ellizabeth’s beautiful story in November of 2023, as she began her fostering journey. We are deeply saddened to share that Ellizabeth passed away in March 2024. Please remember to pray for her family and friends.
