Fishing Adventures at The Hill

Recently at The Hill, everyone was invited out to the pond for a fishing day filled with fresh air, laughter, and new experiences. For several children from our Harrisburg Foster Care Community, this was their very first time learning how to fish. With help from caring adults, they learned how to bait a hook, cast a line, and patiently wait for that exciting first bite.

One child in a Spiderman hoodie had a day he won’t soon forget—he caught five fish and proudly shared that fishing had quickly become one of his favorite things to do, already asking when he could go again. Moments like that are what make these days so special.

Sam, our Property Director and Vocational Skills Instructor, and Tom, our Property Manager, spent the day alongside the children, offering guidance, encouragement, and plenty of celebration with each catch. Beyond just fishing, the children are also given the opportunity to learn how to cook and eat what they catch, building practical skills and confidence along the way.

At Coyote Hill, days like these are about so much more than being at the pond. They’re about stepping away from routine, experiencing the beauty of God’s creation, and creating space for children to feel safe, seen, and loved. Through simple, joy-filled moments, children build relationships, try new things, and make memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.

These moments are about more than fishing—they are about experiencing joy, building confidence, and strengthening relationships in a place where children can simply be kids.
