Pumpkins, Pals, and a Little Fall Fun
Children at Coyote Hill’s Foster Care Neighborhood welcomed fall with an afternoon of pumpkin carving. With pumpkins ready to decorate and plenty of room for creativity, children got to work bringing their ideas to life and enjoying time together.
Volunteers from Christian Campus House joined the families for the afternoon, sharing their time and helping make the event a success. From lending a hand with pumpkin carving to joining in the fun, the volunteers helped create a welcoming space where children and families could enjoy the afternoon together.
Annabelle Austin, a student at Christian Campus House shared her experience throughout the afternoon, “I enjoyed spending time with them while getting to know them, and assisting them with whatever they needed, even to just hold on a pattern for them to carve into their pumpkin.”
“Opportunities like pumpkin carving give children a tradition to look forward to and hopefully carry into their own families someday. These experiences become beautiful memories they can one day share with their own children. Many children have never carved a pumpkin before, so being able to provide a fun, new experience gives them hope.”
For Laural, one of the most memorable moments happened after the carving was finished.
“My favorite moment was toward the end of the afternoon, when the children came together on their own for a basketball game. Hearing their laughter and watching them get to know one another through play was beautiful.
“I enjoyed getting to spend time with the kids and getting to learn more about them and their interests,” Allie Sander, CCH student shared. “The kids I was around enjoyed having the opportunity to carve pumpkins for the first time and use their creativity to create fun designs.”
We’re grateful for the Christian Campus House volunteers who spent the afternoon helping children carve pumpkins, sharing laughs, and making memories alongside the families. Their willingness to give their time and invest in the lives of children helped make the gathering the epitome of a fun fall day!
