Walking Alongside Foster Families

As we are licensing new foster families, we are really multiplying the number of beds that are open for children who have experienced trauma and who need a safe place to be a child™.

~~Amy Kingery, Licensing and Training Director, explains the need and purpose of Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries’s Foster Care Services.

In January 2020, we launched our Foster Care Services branch out of Columbia, Missouri. What better time than during National Foster Care Awareness Month to inform and remind our supporters of this essential new service we are providing to the community? We hope you’ll gain a better understanding of our Foster Care Services team as they share their purpose and perspective:

“Our Family Advocates complete home studies with our families as they go through STARS (Missouri’s required training for new foster parents),” Amy explains. “They maintain a relationship with the family to make sure the family has everything they need to be successful as foster parents. That could be anything from a Welcome basket when the family gets their first placement, to physical needs for their home, to more training throughout their foster parenting journey. A Family Advocate’s role is to ‘walk through life’ with the foster family. The Family Advocate will also provide in-home coaching and mentoring for the foster families on a regular basis. Our Family Advocates are excited to serve and walk through all the fun times as well as the challenges.”

I have seen numerous families’ faith be restored in the foster care system,” says Karcie Wyatt-Clark, one of our Family Advocates. Many of our families felt called to open their hearts and homes to children in need at previous times. After finding a lack of support or help elsewhere, they came to Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries. These families now feel heard and appreciated because of our amazing staff that literally built this program from the ground up. We, as a team, have been blessed with amazing couples and individuals that are now licensed as Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries Foster Parents. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for children and families in Boone and its surrounding counties.

Family Advocates

“I am excited about our Family Advocates. I think this aspect of foster family support is very unique to Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries. I believe Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries families will be supported like none before. This is very exciting to be a part of and to watch unfold.”  ~~Katie Walker-Williams, Home Study Specialist

“I’ve spoken with families who have felt overwhelmed with support,” adds Paige Douce, Family Advocacy Director. “When I ask what they need, they are surprised. They haven’t been asked before and don’t know what to say. I’m excited to help families know that their needs are important to us and we are going to surround them with support! I love the relationships built and maintained with our families. We get to come alongside them beyond the licensing process, when they have children coming into their homes.”

Supporting Foster Families

Several of our families who have completed STARS express that they now feel like they’ve become a part of a family with each other. They are looking forward to walking through life together. We have licensed nine families in the community thus far! They are so excited to get started. One of the families said they have started this process a couple of times and have never completed it because it all seemed so overwhelming. This time they stuck with it, and of course, we stuck with them!

~~Amy Kingery

“I have been honored to be a part of seeing the birth of Foster Care Services,” concludes Aubrey Ash, “It’s unlike any other foster care agency. The goal is to serve the foster parents in unique ways. Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries want them to feel seen, heard and loved. Being a foster parent can be a lonely journey. They never want a family to feel alone, but to know that someone is always there for them.

CEO and Founder, Larry McDaniel, encourages and congratulates our inaugural STARS class graduates.

I‘ve been privileged to do most of the initial home visits with the families who were in our first two STARS classes, and I can tell you that they are top notch! God has blessed us immensely with high quality families who have a heart to serve children. We have an eclectic group of families, single individuals, young couples and those who have raised their children. I have loved meeting all of them and spending time getting to know them.

Our trainers are among some of the best in the area! Having gone through STARS myself, I can personally attest to the fact that Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries foster families are getting a level of training not found elsewhere. Their diligence in making sure our families are well prepared is something to be proud of!

Our staff is comprised of individuals who have an immense amount of knowledge in the area of foster care. We have former Home Parents and Case Managers from Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries, foster and adoptive parents, those who have been in foster care, and ones who have worked for Children’s Division. The experience that our staff brings to the table allows us to minister to families and love them fiercely because we understand and have walked this journey before them.

A world-wide pandemic may have changed the way we train, teach and support our foster families…but it hasn’t stopped us!

Providing A Safe Place to Be a Child for children who’ve experienced abuse and neglect will always be Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries’s goal. We know that providing care for these children from hard places can be mentally, physically and spiritually draining. We want foster parents to feel strengthened, supported and valued as they walk this incredibly important journey with the children placed within their home. The Coyote Hill Foster Care Services team exists to walk alongside foster families and surround them with that high level of support.
