I still remember the Friday evening in April that Cathy and I sat at our kitchen table and committed ourselves to the ministry of Coyote Hill. We really didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into, but we knew it was the direction we were going, regardless.
It is now over 33 years later. What a journey it has been. As I reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared since 1991, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all we’ve accomplished together.
I have found it interesting to discover that the end of a long journey can actually be rather anticlimactic. The thing that you’ve been working toward for so long ends up being nothing more than the last and relatively minor goal in a lifetime of much larger ones achieved along the way.
That “relatively minor goal” waiting at the end of a career has finally found its way to my doorstep. People and other resources have been put into place over the last few years such that I believe it is time for me to walk away and see what God has in store for Coyote Hill working through the next generation. I am more than confident that with the exceptional team and resources we’ve built, Coyote Hill will continue to thrive. The ministry is in a great place right now.
One is left with a million memories, some regrets, some victories, but also, thankfully, the realization that as imperfect as one is, I did the best I could with what the good Lord gave me to work with. It wasn’t always pretty, perfect, or a straight path. . . but here we are, and no one can take that away from us.
We fought the battles as best we could, we survived, and thousands of lives have been impacted in a positive way. Cathy and I started this journey together, and I know she would be incredibly proud of how you’ve continued to uphold our shared vision.
Please know that you are all a part of something that is very precious. In a sense, you are on holy ground. Your dedication to the mission and the sacrifices you make on behalf of those around you, and those children and families you serve, will not go unnoticed by God and will be leveraged many times over for the advancement of His kingdom and the goodness of His people.
Coyote Hill is in great hands. I honestly don’t lose a minute’s sleep over where we are right now and how the future looks. It is fun to watch.
I think Cathy is looking on from heaven with great joy and admiration for all that has been done, and all that you are now doing for children and their families. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for your unwavering commitment and hard work.
I am excited to see how each of you will continue to make a difference in the lives of those we serve. In the words of Mark Zimmer, “Keep it going.”
As for me, I have started my own private practice in Columbia and hope to spend a few more years helping others in that way. I will always remain a steadfast supporter of Coyote Hill’s mission. Press on and finish well.
Take care,
Larry
