One Child’s Faith Journey

Meet Nicole*, a fourteen-year-old child in foster care at our Harrisburg Foster Care community. Nicole has been living with Tim and Stephanie Kreitner for nine months – and over the last year we have watched her faith in Christ begin and grow.

Nicole says she came to know Jesus through conversations and going to church with Tim and Stephanie. “The best part of getting to know Jesus has been knowing that he can do a lot of great things,” Nicole said.

“Just watching the ‘light turn on’ and the wisdom and excitement that shows when something clicks with her has been so fun, not only in her words but facial expressions,” said Tim and Stephanie. “We love watching her continually ask questions and wanting to truly understand who God is and what the Bible is saying.”

They both agree that Nicole is the one who does the hard work of delving into her faith, they just stay open to her. “We show her grace and acceptance that she sometimes doesn’t understand and explain to her that we do things through Christ because he did it all for us, no questions asked.”

“Tim and Stephanie inspire me to keep faith,” said Nicole.

“We don’t push or force our beliefs onto her, we just keep the door open and let her experience our faith through our lives. We share our experiences and backgrounds and show her how God was there the whole time,” said Stephanie.

“Nicole is an amazing and bright young woman who not only is curious, but seeks out information about her faith and how grace works,” Tim and Stephanie said. “She seeks God out, and we are just vessels to help her along the way.”
