Discovering Confidence and Joy Through Horses
At Coyote Hill, we often see how small moments can spark incredible growth in the children we serve. One of our recent experiences perfectly illustrates this.

When one child first stepped into our equine program, curiosity mixed with a little uncertainty. Horses can seem big, strong, and unfamiliar — especially for children who have never been around them before. But with gentle encouragement and a patient horse named Lizzy, that uncertainty quickly turned into confidence.
During her very first lesson, she learned how to brush Lizzy’s coat, guide her with care, and trust in their own abilities. By the end of the session, the nervous smiles had turned into pure joy. Watching them lead Lizzy with steady hands and pride in her eyes was a powerful reminder of what happens when children feel safe, supported, and believed in.
“I appreciate all you do for the kids. What a wonderful program!”
Moments like these show that our equine program isn’t just about horseback riding — it’s about growth, courage, and connection. Horses like Lizzy help children learn patience, empathy, and responsibility. More importantly, they help children discover their own strength and the confidence that carries into every area of their lives.
At Coyote Hill, we believe learning happens everywhere — not just in classrooms or through books. It happens in the fresh air, beside a gentle horse, with hands brushing through a mane and hearts learning to trust again.
Each lesson is a step toward healing, self-esteem, and hope. And when a child walks away from the arena smiling, standing taller, and believing in themselves — that’s the true magic of what we do.
