A Look Back at This Year’s After-School Program

As another school year ends, it is so fun to look back on all of the adventures and memories that were made in our After-School Program at The Hill.

After getting off the bus, children would directly go to our office, where our Community Coordinator, Daisy Marquez, would have an activity planned.

“It’s good social time for all of the children,” Daisy said. “They get to hang out and have fun with one another. They also have the space to do things they don’t always get to do at home.”

This includes things such as baking, crafts, or tutoring. This semester, they made homemade Reese’s eggs, banana bread, and cake pops. They also picked

dandelions and made fresh dandelion jelly! They have also done painting classes and a weaving project.

Every Tuesday, the After-School Program offers tutoring. At the end of the semester, every child who participated got a packet of everything they had worked on that year.

“Some of the kids asked if they could keep coming back to tutoring, even during the summer,” Daisy said. “They were so excited to take their packets home and show their parents what they had learned.”

We have also started hosting movie days on the last day of the month. Our foster parents will nominate a child who has been growing and demonstrating outstanding behavior. The child gets an award at the movie night, and it has been so fun to see their development!
