20 Years of Impact: Coyote Hill Golf Tournament Surpasses $1 Million for Foster Care

The sun came up on May 4 like it has for the past 20 years, but this time, it felt different. There was something deeper in the air at Country Club of Missouri; not just anticipation, but reflection. Not just another tournament, but a full-circle moment.

The 20th Annual Golf Tournament hosted by Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries carried both the depth and the beauty of everything that’s come before it, twenty years of early mornings, shared stories, steadfast sponsors, and a community that continues to choose children and families in foster care, year after year.

“Every child in foster care deserves a champion,” said Kari Hopkins, COO at Coyote Hill. “Each of the last 20 years, hundreds of golfers have gathered together to step in as a champion for children.”

By the time the first players checked in, there was already a rhythm to the day. Volunteers moved with purpose. Teams greeted each other like old friends. New faces stepped in, quickly becoming part of something bigger than a round of golf.

With both morning and afternoon flights full, more than 50 teams filled the course—local businesses, longtime champions, and first-time participants. Some came to compete. All came because they believe in what happens beyond the scoreboard.

That belief has fueled two decades of impact.

“It’s time and treasure they are committing, and it’s not something we take lightly,” Kari added, reflecting on the long-standing commitment of the tournament community.

Presented by Relevance, this year’s tournament also pointed forward. Their partnership reflects a new kind of momentum, where innovation meets mission, and where expanding awareness means expanding impact. It’s a reminder that the work is growing, and the way we tell the story must grow with it.

Throughout the course, more than 50 sponsors showed up in meaningful, tangible ways—sponsoring holes, creating moments of joy, and offering encouragement between shots. Each team played on behalf of a local foster family, so when they won their round, their family received a mini golf outing together.

“Over the last 20 years, Coyote Hill’s budget has grown fourfold, and the number of children served has increased ninefold,” Kari shared. “Consistent events like the Golf Tournament have made that growth possible.”

You don’t reach $1 million in impact overnight. You reach it one “yes” at a time.
One team signing up again. One sponsor choosing to stay. One leader inviting someone new into the story.

Over the years, faithful advocates like Larry Gross and John Glennon have helped carry this vision forward, not with fanfare, but with consistency. And that consistency is what has built something enduring.

“For 20 years, this tournament has demonstrated what’s possible when a community rallies around a shared mission,” said Joe Knight, Development Director at Coyote Hill. “Every dollar raised directly supports children and empowers foster families across our region.”

Kari echoed that same heart for community partnership in a simple, personal way: “So many faithful supporters play every year and look forward to sponsoring the tournament. I love when our community can use a sport they love to care for children we love.”

As the day winded down and scores were tallied, something else became clear: the real outcome isn’t written on a leaderboard. It’s written in the lives that will be impacted because this day happened.

The families who will be equipped and supported. The children who will enter homes where they are safe, seen, and cared for. The communities that will be strengthened because people chose to act.

Twenty years in, this tournament has become more than an event. It’s a reflection of what’s possible when a community decides that showing up matters—and then proves it, year after year.

And if this year reminded us of anything, it’s this: the story isn’t finished.
