Sidewalk Gratitude

Our world today is in desperate need of kindness, as many in our communities are hurting and scared. In The Wright Home in Harrisburg, MO, they’ve been working through a book in their morning devotions entitled, “The Kindness Challenge,” by Shaunti Feldhahn. The book focuses on embracing the power of kindness in order to transform hurting relationships into healthy ones.

One of the recent lessons in the book was about how the basic root of kindness is thankfulness. Looking for ways to be thankful and expressing gratitude to God can help transform our outlook and attitude!

Romans 12:2 states: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Do you think our world is in need of transformation? Thankfulness can be a huge part of it. It allows us to find the joy and beauty in all relationships and things we have, rather than focusing on the negatives. Giving thanks is a continual choice on our part. When we fail to feel gratitude, by default our attitude becomes one of ingratitude.

After the devotion, Home Parents Andrew and Merri Heberlein headed outside with their kids. They put on some worship music, brought out the sidewalk chalk, and asked everyone to write the things they are thankful for along the walk.

Everyone thought of several things to be thankful for, as you can tell from the photos. By the time they finished, the sidewalk was covered with gratitude!
