We hosted one of our quarterly respite events at Christian Fellowship in mid-March. Despite having rainy weather, we had such a great time serving foster families and giving foster parents a well-deserved break.
“The intention behind respite events is to create additional support and reprieve for parents who support kids,” Lorenzo Scott, Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries Family Advocate, said. “They can relax, go on dates, and have peace of mind, knowing that their children are being cared for.”

This respite event was so amazing because we got to serve nearly 60 children with the help of over 40 volunteers!
“We had an incredible amount of engaged, dynamic volunteers,” Lorenzo said. “They did everything they were supposed to do, and then some. The ingenuity and creativity they displayed to keep children engaged was awesome.”

We also received support from Pizza Tree and Mutrux Automotive, who supplied food and swag for the event!
Children were able to do crafts together, get their faces painted by expert face-painters, complete fun challenges in order to exchange tickets for stuffed animals, and more! After the event, many children went home armed with several new stuffed animals and books, as well as other neat prizes.
“One big takeaway I had from the event was how our volunteers and respite providers were able to see a snapshot of what our community looks like,” Lorenzo said. “One father of adoptive children told me that his children were able to meet other children who came from a similar background. This was able to open up the door for them to ask questions and have a conversation about it. It is awesome to be building a community for children who have had similar experiences.”
