Celebrating Strong Foundations

Sunday, September 8, 2019 proved to be an incredible day of celebration. A sixth home completed and the announcement of a seventh home under construction, donors honored who have supported us for over 20 years, and hundreds of visitors on site, to name just a few!

Open House 2019, hosted at our newest home, The Petersheim Home, turned out to be one of our best attended Open House events to date. After beginning these 20 years ago, we’re thrilled to know that the community appreciates the day as much as we do.

Former resident of Cathy’s Home, Jesse Dalbec, with his wife Sara and their two daughters.

“One of my favorite parts of Open House is seeing all the alums. Adults who as children spent several formative years living at Coyote Hill. They bring their kids; they see their former Home Parents who’ve also returned for the event. It demonstrates the connections they formed while here. Once you are a part of the Coyote Hill family, you are always a member of the family.”

— Kari Hopkins, Foundation Director

The lovely weather meant folks lingered to chat under the big tent or grab a seat at one of the porch swings that surround The Petersheim Home’s fire pit. Dozens of folks toured The Petersheim Home, as well as rode around our property on a hayride tour. Children took advantage of the huge new playground recently completed at The Petersheim Home, as well as the day’s addition of two fun bounce house options. Horse rides were also given at Overton Arena for children.

Many were impressed with the delicious BBQ options provided this year by Heuer’s Café, a local Harrisburg favorite. Just as the sun came out and temperatures rose, Kona Ice arrived to give attendees free snow cones!

Marvin and Doris Earl were one of several who were honored this year as Legacy Donors.

Executive Director Larry McDaniel took a few moments of the afternoon to celebrate this year’s Legacy Donors. Those who have been consistently supporting Coyote Hill for 20 years were honored with a plaque and Coyote Hill mug. Following this, Larry introduced Jerry and Maggie Ubl. (Read their story!) Thanks to Jerry and Maggie’s generosity, our seventh home is now under construction! Some of our youth who worked summer jobs on site, helping with construction, came up to meet the Ubls and present them with a hammer engraved with the words “Ubl Home 2019 – Building a Safe Place to Be a Child”.

We love the chance to visit with long time supporters and friends, as well as meet many new faces. Thank you to our community for building strong foundations in children’s lives, for today and the future.
