The Way Back Home

At Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries, we are blessed with AMAZING moms that love and nurture the children in their homes as a whole and individually. With many varied schedules and lots of kids, it makes one-on-one time with the children very difficult. However, the Home Parents do make time for those moments, and in honor of Mother’s Day, we’d like to share a bit about one such moment with a mom and one of her “tweenagers.”

Everyone knows that transitioning from being a child to a teenager can be a very trying time in the life of a child. Add in the other challenges that our children deal with, and it can become overwhelming.

Mom in the Wright Home, Merri Heberlein, did what she could to make the transition enjoyable for Kayla*, a young lady in her home that was going to be reunified with her family soon. Merri decided they should go out for the day, just the two of them, for some precious mother/daughter time. It was a fun outing for both of them, and Merri had this to say about it:

“We really enjoyed our time together!  She picked where we went to eat and where we went shopping. As she was picking out some new hair bows and headbands, she even decided she wanted to get a hair cut!  The new hair-do turned out very cute and made her look more grown-up.”road under canopy of trees | coyotehill.org

Their fun day together ended with a touching conversation on drive back home:

Kayla: Mom, is this Hwy. 124?

Merri: Yes, you’ve got a good memory.

Kayla: (a while later) Is this Ridge Road?

Merri: Yes it is.

Kayla: (and lastly) And this road, it’s Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries Road, isn’t it?

Merri: It sure is. Why do you keep asking?

Kayla: Because when I leave I’ll miss you, and I want to know how to come back home.

Being a foster parent can be difficult, loving the children deeply yet knowing you’ll have to let them go. Moments like this are deeply moving to our Home Parents.

A big THANK YOU to all mothers for your sacrificial love – but especially to our wonderful moms at Coyote Hill Foster Care Ministries. We couldn’t do it without you!
