Are you passionate about children & having a positive influence on the next generation?

January is National Mentoring Month and Coyote Hill is seeking mentors! We would love to have a few more volunteers who want to spend time with our boys and girls ranging in age from 6 to 17.

What is a mentor?
An individual who is committed to spending one-on-one time with a child, with the intention of forming a positive friendship & bringing joy to that child’s life.

If I am a mentor, what do I do?
Do what you & the child love to do!

• Play games at the park
• Window shop at the mall
• Ride horses (at Coyote Hill, under supervision)
• Go for a bike ride
• Attend a sporting event
• Give each other manicures

What kind of commitment do you need?
Since our children are typically with us for 1-2 yrs. we ask that you commit for an initial 6 months, with a min. of 1 visit per month (approx. 3 hours). Ideally, a mentor will spend a few hours once every 1-2 weeks. We find that the best relationships are formed with consistency.  After your first 6 months, we are sure you’ll want to keep hanging out with our kids, so we’ll meet just to check in.

What can you expect from your mentor experience?

• Short interview following a tour of our homes
• Orientation, covering Coyote Hill policies & procedures
• Supervision & support from Home Parents & staff
• THE MOST FUN YOU’VE EVER HAD!

We couldn’t help but feel the kindling fire of hospitality each and every time you invited our children to various parties, or stopped by to volunteer your help. And the flame of charity? Goodness – that flame was fanned over and over again as SO many of you gave generously to help provide Christmas gifts, treats and other donations to make “Christmas for Kids” a memorable and magical experience for all of the children.

Every year Coyote Hill grants Christmas wishes to all of the children who call us home. If you have participated in the past, you know the joy you can help bring to all of our children; and we are tremendously grateful.  If this is your first year, then we also appreciate your excitement to share in Coyote Hill’s Christmas for Kids.  Big or small, we can use your help to make this a Christmas to remember.

We hope you will join with us as we do our best to grant Christmas wishes and celebrate the love of family for our 20th year.

Again this year, we are designating 2 weeks for present drop-off.  Beginning Monday, November 28 — Friday, December 9, you may bring gifts or other donations to our drop-off location in Columbia. (First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt Street.)

Please schedule a time with Kari to bring gifts.  If mailing donations, please continue to use our current address.

Listed below are different ways you or your organization can get involved this year.
If you are interested in any of the following, please contact Kari Salmon.

•  Display a tree at your business for employees to pick ornaments representing each child’s needs.
• Sponsor part or all of a child’s wish list.
• Purchase wrapping paper/gift bags for the gifts.
• Make a donation for Coyote Hill to purchase gifts.
• Sponsor part or all of a Home’s wish list (items needed to upkeep each home).
• Spread Christmas joy by volunteering at the Hill.

HARRISBURG – The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) today announced that a Harrisburg not-for-profit organization has been approved for state tax credits under the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP).

Coyote Hill Christian Children’s Home has been approved for $331,600 in tax credits. Coyote Hill will utilize NAP donations for the construction of a new children’s home that will provide abused and neglected youth a safe living environment. Upon completion, this facility will accommodate up to eight children daily and allow the agency to provide educational, rehabilitative, and counseling services to an increased number of at-risk Missouri children.

The DED administers the Neighborhood Assistance Program that helps not-for-profit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects.

Businesses can donate cash, materials, supplies or equipment; technical assistance and professional services; labor; real estate; or stocks and bonds. Credits can equal up to 50 percent of the total amount contributed or up to 70 percent for projects located in most rural areas.

Not-for-profit organizations participating in the NAP program conduct capital campaigns or provide services in the areas of crime prevention, education, job training, physical revitalizations, or community services. The Neighborhood Assistance Program is utilized by not-for-profit organizations throughout Missouri to make their communities a more desirable place to live and work, as well as pave the way for economic development.
